What is LMS?

LMS stands for Learning Management System. It is a software application or platform that helps educators and institutions manage, deliver, and track educational courses and training programs. LMS platforms are commonly used in schools, universities, businesses, and other organizations to create an online learning environment.

Historical context of LMS at IUM

IUM, in short which stands for the International University of Management, is a private university based in Namibia. While I do not have specific information on the historical contexts of the Learning Management System (LMS) at IUM, I can provide some general insight on how LMS platforms have been adopted in educational institutions over time.

The use of Learning Management System in higher education has become increasingly common over the past few decades. Initially, universities and colleges relied on traditional methods of teaching and learning such as lectures, textbooks and in-person interactions. However with advancements in technology and the rise of online education, many institutions started to explore the benefits of incorporating LMS platforms into their academic programs.

Why IUM chose LMS for Online Education.

IUM, likely chose to implement Learning Management System for online education for variety of reasons.
Which are
:
Flexibility and accessibility- using an LMS allows IUM to offer online courses that can be accessed anytime, anywhere, providing students with the flexibility to learn at their own pace and convenience.
Enhanced learning experience- LMS provides tools for interactive and engaging learning experiences, such as multimedia content, discussion forums, quizzes and assignments which can enhance student engagement and retention of course materials.
